IPM Tips: Harborage
Like all other organisms, pest populations have very specific habitat requirements in order to survive and thrive. By limiting or eliminating these habitats, you can drastically reduce your pest liability almost immediately.
- Seal garbage in heavy containers and if possible store away from structure
- Use non-organic mulches and ground cover adjacent to the structures foundation
- Remove dead trees, limbs, and stumps
- If possible, store all firewood off the ground and away from the structure
- Rake leaves and dispose of properly
- Composting piles should be kept in back corner of yard or property
